Eliyahu Miron, z”l

Eliyahu Miron was born in 1921 in Poland and came to Israel with his parents, Yitzhak and Esther Nemirovsky, when he was 11 years old. He lost his parents at a young age, but their educational approach left a mark on his personality and his life’s work.

He was educated on the values of Torah and Zionism, and in his worldview the two were intertwined. He strived all his life to realize these ideals and to create worthy frameworks for inculcating them and actualizing them in society.

Even as a young man he established study frameworks that were aimed at deepening the religious and spiritual worlds of young people, to broaden their knowledge and provide them with an ethical outlook based on the foundations of Torah. Later on he took care of the religious needs of the fighters in the religious company of the Palmah pre-state militia, and over the years he was an active partner in a variety of projects and initiatives that dealt with integrating the world of Torah and the spirit with the material world.

Eliyahu Miron was a fearless man who always spoke the truth. He believed in the justice of his cause and didn’t hesitate to express his opinions even when he knew his remarks would not be well received.

Attorney Eliyahu Miron passed away in May 1999, at the age of 78. He left many descendents, all of whom are continuing his legacy and his life’s work.

In keeping with his worldview, of the Torah world and Israeli society being intrinsically linked, his family decided to memorialize him via the Yeshiva Gevoha of Tel Aviv, which was named Ma’aleh Eliyahu. The yeshiva, located in the heart of Tel Aviv, champions the combination of serious Torah study with an obligation to Jewish activism and outreach. The yeshiva educates it students to make a meaningful contribution to the city of Tel Aviv and the wider Israeli society.
